The most efficient and cost-effective way to expand renewable energy nationwide is by the federal government requiring solar power and battery power storage to be installed in the construction of new homes, apartments, condominiums, and buildings that are three stories or less. The cost to install solar and power storage is 35% in new homes as compared to retrofitting similar systems into existing structures. Installing the systems in new homes would increase an average 30-year monthly mortgage by $75 while it will reduce typical electric utility bills by $150 a month. We should also increase the energy efficiency of structures.
